You have joined us here in the 21st century! After years of deception and denial you have decided to come on board to the frightening reality of Global Warming! Last year WalMart surprised me as well when they announced some effective measures it is taking to use less energy and encourage its customers to do the same. Now you, ExxonMobil, have shocked me!
From MSNBC:
Oil major Exxon Mobil Corp. is engaging in industry talks on possible U.S. greenhouse gas emissions regulations and has stopped funding groups skeptical of global warming claims — moves that some say could indicate a change in stance from the long-time foe of limits on heat-trapping gases.
Exxon, along with representatives from about 20 other companies, is participating in talks sponsored by Resources for the Future, a Washington, D.C., nonprofit. The think tank said it expected the talks would generate a report in the fall with recommendations to legislators on how to regulate greenhouse emissions.
It goes on:
Boudreux said Exxon in 2006 stopped funding the Competitive Enterprise Institute, a nonprofit advocating limited government regulation, and other groups that have downplayed the risks of greenhouse emissions.
The Competitive Enterprise Institute? Oh yes they are the scumbags who aired that ad with the girl and the dandelion, telling us that CO2 emissions are nothing to be afraid of. ExxonMobil has finally cut them off... good move!
Of course, it has become good business to go green. Consumers in greater numbers are choosing to deal with companies who take steps to reduce waste, use less energy. But regardless of WalMart or ExxonMobil's motives, any efforts to reduce their environmental impact should be applauded.
It was capitalism that caused this problem. Now it looks like it will also be the solution.
And we are still waiting for George W Bush to acknowlege the human impact on Global Warming, but he is still largely ignoring the threat. Whle the threat of global terrorism is real, shouldn't we also take steps to combat the threat of climate change as well? Isn't the warming of the earth a bigger threat to human kind than handfuls of fanatics who like to blow up buildings?
Isn't it time the rest of the Global Warming deniers out there follow the lead of ExxonMobil, and get on the right side of this issue, before it is too late to make a difference?

Bush's contribution to global warming is measured by the amounts of greeenhouse gases released by an exploding roadside bomb. (Forgive my bitterness.)
