Media Myths...

March 13, 2008 / by liberalfreak

I wanted to clear up a few media misconceptions regarding this year's election.

Myth # 1: The Democratic race is a toss-up.  Either Hillary or Obama could win this thing.

Truth: Hillary has a long-shot chance of winning the nomination, but it's really a longshot.  Obama has this thing wrapped up.  He is ahead by over 100 delegates, and unless Hillary wins by some huge margins in the rest of the primaries, it's all over.  All Hillary can hope for is that Obama gets caught in bed with a man or something and be forced to withdrawl his candidacy.

Myth # 2: This is about Experience vs Change

Truth: Hillary continues to tell everyone how experienced she is and is the only one ready to be president "on day 1".  The media ate it up without question.  However it is only recently that she is being challenged on this claim by Obama.  During her eight years as first lady, the one major issue she was tasked with failed miserably.  Despite public desire for universal healthcare she proved inadequate when it came time to take on the healthcare lobby.  In fact, Obama has held elected office longer than Clinton, 11 years to her 7 and has a much larger list of legislative accomplishments, so who's really more experienced here??

Myth # 3: Obama makes a good speech, but has really accomplished nothing.

Truth: I grit my teeth any time a pundit makes a comment like that, and it blows my mind even more when Hillary Clinton tells crowds the same thing especially when she was there when he introduced bills for ethics reform, nuclear non-proliferation, and alternative energy investment.  If you truly want to know what his accomplishments are, then Google it and they won't be hard to find.  If you are only interested in trashing Obama, then you probably aren't really interested in what he's accomplished anyway.

While Clinton has pulled out every dirty trick in the book, Obama has for the most part stayed above the mud-slinging and has stayed on message.  Clinton has adjusted her message and strategy too many times to count and she is starting to smell of desperation.  I can give her the benefit of the doubt and say that it is the fault of her campaign staff, but the fact that Obama has run a much better campaign tells me that he is also more qualified to be president.

Obama will probably have the lead in the end. But Im not sure about the "superdelegates" switching sides. (Why the democrats came up with that system , I will never know?) Hillary may have shot herself in the foot with the whole "flying into a war zone with sniper fire" stuff. The Clinton's have a tough time with the truth.

Liberalfreak, I love what you have written I guess because it's the truth. I'm a liberal also, not only that but a human rights activist and have protested more times than I can count. I walk my talk and can't be stopped. I'm just  the type of person who can't sit by while people do bad things.
